| ACEO stands for Art Card Editions and Originals. They are collectible miniature works of art and are a great way to own original art at an economical price because they are only 2.5 X 3.5 inches in size. They can be prints or originals created in any medium that corresponds to trading card size: oil, watercolor, pastel, pencil and even fabric or even wood. Some people collect them in binders in the same type of plastic sleeve that sports cards are collected in. They can also be matted and framed and displayed in clusters on a wall or displayed on an easel. Collecting these has become a growing hobby with people all over the world.
The market for these is somewhat fickle. Sometimes in auctions really good ones that are genuine art slip through the the cracks and sell for a ridiculously low price and others that are actually created in photoshop and pawned off as photo realistic paintings sell for a high sum. I guess it's 'buyer beware'. None of the people I do in these cards exists. I start off with two dots for the pupils of the eye, two for the nostrils and a seagull-in-flight type of line for the mouth. Then with lights and darks, warms and cools I push the paint about until I get a presentable face. Some, I admit, turn out absolutely hideous and they end up on a discard pile. |
